Merseyside Maritime Museum - 'Life on Board'
We were contacted by the 'Merseyside Maritime Museum' in August 2019
with an opportunity to tender for a brand new gallery called 'Life on Board'.
The Gallery situated on the 2nd floor of the museum at the Royal Albert Dock was due to open in March 2020.
The tender process lasted 3 weeks and costs were submitted and subsequently accepted in October 2019.
We have a long-standing relationship spanning over 30 years with NML and have supplied signage, banners, specialised exhibition displays, screen printing , UV printed and digitally printed signage to all of the 7 museums situated in Merseyside, over this period.
There was daily contact with the lead designer from the museum at the beginning of the project. We provided many samples for approval as the design team
were after a specific authentic look and feel for the exhibition. Colours were to match a particular palette for use on all media, which included wallpaper, 3d graphic panels, polycarbonate and birch plywood.
In total, we manufactured over 300 individual items including a metal, routered, hand-painted plimsoll line. Large format, digitally printed wallpapers, an LED illuminated lightbox, framed pictures, digitally printed vinyl applied to CNC routered foamex panels. We also printed direct to birch plywood panels using our wide format UV printer in a section of the gallery dedicated to the environment.
We worked in tandem during production with the shopfitting team as the 2nd floor was re-designed for this gallery.
Installation began during February and was completed in the first week of March 2020. Our deadline was met in-time for 'Life on Board' to open to the public on the 20th March, which was subsequently delayed due to Covid-19.
Fast forward five months and the gallery will open to the general public on the 19th August 2020.
The signage looks fantastic and we are proud to have been involved in such a prestigious project.
